Poor communication can damage all your relationships. It will have a bad impact on your life and reduce you confidence to the lowest.
The basis of communication is interaction – speak and listen, give and receive. However, people have different objectives and viewpoints and when these are in conflict, effective communication is impaired.
Effective communication means achieving a shared understanding between receiver and sender of messages of what the issue on which communication is important. Good communication means an efficiently directing of the flow of information. An effective communicator will help its audience overcome the barriers that limit an open discussion. Through good communication you can stimulate others to take action and achieve goals. You can channel information so that people are encouraged to think of new ways to act more effectively.
– One key to effectively communicating is Attentive listening. Listen to other people and let them know that you are making efforts to understand what they are trying to communicate. You can empathise with somebody when you try to put yourself in their situation.
– One other key to good communication is to keep your message concise and to the point. Convey your messages in a simple and concise manner. Rephrase it, say it again until your listeners understand.
– Body language plays an important part in efficient communication. if you excude confidence there is a better chance to get through to others. Your body language will determine the response you get from other people.
communication skills can be improved just like any other skills by putting effort. Always be aware that your communication can be misinterpreted. You have to continually stay alert for signs that your audience is misinterpreting what you are saying and find ways to correct any misunderstandings.
