Not because you are delivering short best man speeches does it mean that you have to do away with preparing for it. No, even the brief speeches require some research and preparation. The time you deliver, no matter how short that time, could end up as a disaster when you don’t do anything to condition yourself for the speech.

How do you ensure that your speech will go well? Here are a few tricks.

Say it with sincerity. It really doesn’t need a lot of words to convey your message to the audience. It is enough, sometimes, to say a few words given that you have drive your point well. If you’re going for a short speech, you’ll best stick with lines that can drive your points well.

Be careful in saying some words. Keep tabs of comments or lines that may across as unguarded or insensitive as these often spoil the mood of the audience. Don’t talk about delicate subjects, for example, and those matters that are best left unsaid. You get the point – don’t even mention subjects that everyone else would rather not here. When delivering a joke, choose those that are not in bad taste. Also, don’t say jokes that could hurt anyone. If it’s funny and wouldn’t hurt the sensibilities of the groom, if you’re joking about him for example, try to pick a good, entertaining but not embarrassing joke and phrase it decently.

Try to entertain the guest. Don’t deliver a very structured, serious best man speech. As much as possible, deliver it in a conversational tone. With that said, don’t use formal language and tone to avoid boring your crowd.

Be receptive to your audience’s ears. A diverse crowd such that of a wedding crowd call for age-appropriate, light-hearted materials. Children and old people might react to offending words, so try to pick words that are in good taste. Also, when picking words to emphasize lines in your speech, refrain from choosing swear words.

Contact several people. Gather as much information as you need. The best people to contact are those other friends of the bride and groom and their relatives who can give you extra materials for your speech.

Keep it brief. Unless you feel that your audience is ready for a long speech, try to spare them lengthy lines and give them short best man speeches instead. In general, however, people prefer short speeches that drive their points. However, don’t make it so short that you’d not be able to give your position as the best man some justice. A 3 to 5-minute speech, with a few jokes here and there, a short story about the groom, a few wishes and a final toast would work very well.
