Quickbooks online

Obviously not everyone can work remotely as many types of employment require workers to be at their employers premises or travel to perform their work face to face. But for those of us given the opportunity to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share my experiences and share some practical guidance by distributing it on the web with the sole objective of providing useful ways for adapting to remote working or managing remote workers.

I must tell you you that there are many self proclaimed ‘gurus’ online who will try and make you purchase information for preposterous sums of cash, trust me you don’t have to do this.

I am privileged to be able to work in whatever location I choose and just about everyone who asks me what work I do wants to get an idea of how I am able to work remotely. Don’t get the wrong idea I am still improving the science of remote working as all of the time I encounter people on the web who show me new knowledge and I am constantly unearthing new software and approaches that make my life easier and make me more effective.

During the past 7 years I have slowly but surely adapted my working practices to enable me to do most of my work remotely with a portfolio of web tools and unfaltering self management. One lunchtime whilst surfing the Internet I discovered Quickbooks online and this opened my eyes to what just might be possible. The encounter with ’hosted’ ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was a special moment for me and the launch pad of my ‘remote working experience.

I must tell you up front that successfully working remotely is as much about the tools as it is about self management. Working remotely also means informing your co-workers, managers and clients as to what they can expect and how they will communicate with you.

In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – Effective working styles’ I show you how to focus.
