Persuasive Speech Topics: The effortless way to plan what to say
Writing an informative presentation can often be an intimidating task in the beginning. Before writing your presentation you should do some research. Persuasive topics will quite often involve more work to prepare than run of the mill topics. You should not only think of something that is interesting and that will grab your audience’s attention. You should also know, beforehand , how relevant your speech ideas are to what your audience needs to know.
You may also have to choose an opposing view as a way to arouse attention.
Selecting a persuasive topic isn’t always as simple as it sounds. Your selection of topic will decide if your audience will be touched , moved and uplifted by you…or merely bored. The wrong topic choice may get you the wrong result.
So you can be certain that you choose a powerful and persuasive topic, here are a few suggestions how to choose a fascinating and persuasive speech topic.
1) Be aware of what’s currently happening in the world
It’s always good to “know your stuff”. Keep track of current events. Become an expert by watching the news and reading good quality newspapers. You will gain even more credibility from speaking about the latest news items that interest your audience. Because they are hot topics the audience will be more inclined to listen carefully to your presentation. Be more discerning about what you watch because what you view is what you will become. If you don’t want to remain the same “old you” but want to be interesting you should seriously consider the quality of the information you allow into your mind.
Another more modern resource is the Internet. There are a numerous research resources such as Google news.and friend feed. Both of these resources are searchable by simply entering a key word term.
Between the web and TV with its hundreds if not thousands of channels you will be spoiled for choice in your hunt for persuasive speech topics.
2) Be relaxed and confident about your speech… . Know your subject matter
One of the secrets of writing a brilliant speech is your choice of topic. Choose a topic you you know something about. The other and probably even more important thing to bear in mind is that your audience should also be interested in your subject matter…No matter how fascinating you find your topic, if it is of no interest to your audience they will not want to listen to you or worse, get bored. In fact, if you’re not careful you might get the reputation as being able to cure insomnia.
This is the one area where I notice so many people going wrong. Your audience is there to be entertained or educated. That’s it! When you give them information that they can benefit from or laugh about you will create a far more powerful impact . AND your audience will remember you!
3) Pay attention to great speakers and model what they do.
One of the most powerful keys to success, in any area of your life, is when you copy or model great people. If you can get one of them to mentor you and show you how they do it then seize this chance without hesitation.
The world public speaking champion, Darren LaCroix used toastmasters as a way to improve and hone his skills. Often he would visit three toastmasters meetings in one night. This also gave him a big advantage because he was getting lots of feedback on ways that he could improve his speaking technique.
Get trained… Choose from any one of a number of public speaking courses that are available. They extend from toastmasters to a huge variety of other courses that are available in further education institutions and on-line.
Selecting your persuasive topics is just the first step in being a powerful and confident public speaker. You will not attain this overnight. Like everything else it will take training and dedication.
However…
When you persist…. you will win.
